I recently purchased a 1975? Catalina 22. HIN# FLZS4020C570. Can someone tell me what the hull # is , and what month & year it was produced. I went to the archives, and could'nt get a straight answer. Thanks for your help.

Hull Number explained
The hull number is like the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on a car. It uniquely ID's the boat. You can go to the Catalina 22 web site ( www.catalina22.org ) for more information. The only issue I see with the Hull ID number (HIN) that you have is that it does not look like a Catalina HIN. Usually, the first 4 letters indicate the manufacturer, and Catalinas start with "CTHY" or something like that. The last few digits indicate the year of manufacture, and it looks like the HIN you have indicates a 1970 year, not a 1975. The middle part of the HIN indicates the serial number (sail number) of the boat, i.e. how many they have produced so far. Your HIN indicates 4020. I think you should check out the boat a little bit more.

Boat is 1970 not 1975
You wont believe this. I just purchased a Cat. 22, and was told it was a 1975. I received the title, and it was wrong, so I did a little detective work. Turns out, the boat is a Catalina 22 , only it's a 1970 , and hull #164. The person who sold it to me said he had no idea????

Check the transom (starboard side) just below the rubrail to find the boat's HIN. If its a Catalina, then it should start with CTY. Click on the related link to take you to a site that explains the HIN.

Does anyone have the HIN # on
an aluminum plate that is mounted on the inside surface of the transom? My C22 has the plate with Catalina Yacht logo & the hull number. The hull number does not include any letters, just the number 9102. Could this boat have been built outside of the USA under license to Catalina?

Not the HIN on the aluminum plate
Yes, we all have that aluminum plate on our Catalina 22's. It is not the official HIN. It is only the sail number. The HIN includes coded information about the manufacturuer and the year built. It is impregnated into the fiberglass on the outside of the transom, upper right. Regards, Ted

Thanks Ted for that Info...
When I get "Powigs" unwrapped, I will check for the HIN number again. I have seen postings on this forum & as you indicated regarding the number location. The number in the fiberglass is not obvious & no one had mentioned the plate, so I had assumed that my C22 was different from others. Unwrapping is still a couple of weeks away. Regards, Bob B.

HIN not stamped into hull
The hin is not stamped or etched into the hull. I have checked eveywhere mentioned. I believe that until 1972, these plates were the only thing catalina produced identifying the boat. If i'm not correct, please let me know.
