I have a 1975 boat. At one time Im sure the boat was a cream color but now through years of fading the hull is white. Every season I scrub it up before launch. Its clean but there really isnt much finish left and the hull is now a clean chalky white. I get a lot of lime stains which are easy to remove. Any one have a suggestion or know about anything I can apply to get some sheen and or protection to the hull. Bob Fox

chalk

The conventional wisdom is that the chalk needs to me thoroughly removed before anything else you try will work. After you do that, it's largely a personal preference if you wax and polish, apply acrylic coating or just go sailing. There are others here FAR more knowledgeable about hull maintenance than am I but my impression is that to do it well, you either need successively milder grades of polishing compounds or very fine grit wet sandpaper to remove the chalk.

apply new paint

the way you describ it seams like it's about time to paint the boat.top paint is'nt that much of a job sand with 120 grit clean and paint,i'm in the proces of doing that and much much more on my c-22. try this web site if you decide to go for it.

Wax

You indicate the hull is washed clean, but are you waxing? As Don alluded, using a cleaning compond and then waxing will restore the luster, shine, and often the original color.

Poly glow

I used poly glow on my 31 Hunter 1984 and it looked new. People wpold come over to me at the boat yard and ask me what I was using because it looked great!!
