Trying to clean my 1994 23.5 hull isn't working as well as I had expected ... Started with a good wash, used "On/Off" to remove wax and stains, next used 3M rubbing compound, and finally 3M Finess It III. I still have a yellowish hue on the port side. Anyone encounter the same problem? Any suggestions?

FSR...

Fiberglass Stain Remover, a blue gel available at West, BoatUS, etc. is an absolute miracle worker.

Gerard, Thanks a lot! I was starting to wonder if I was stuck with that "egg shell" look. I'll give it a shot today after work.

SLX

Try SLX. I use it to remove the yellow ICW stains on my Pearson. Nothing else will take them off. Any reputable boat yard shuld be able to get it for you. It easy to use. Sponge it on. Wait 10 minutes, but don't let it dry. The hose it off. It's that simple. On/Off never worked for me. Here's to a clean hull! Dave

How about Island Girl products?

Although I've never used them, Phil says he witnessed an incredible job that the IG products accomplished on a rank piece of fiberglass. Have you asked for advice in the Gel Coat and Plastics forum? Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240

Yellow Hull

Hi John: I also sail in the same waters you do in that my boat is kept in White Lake and also sails Lake MI.. My hull also gets yellow from constantly being in the water and I have used toilet bowl cleaner to remove stains. So far it has worked very nicely, is cheap to purchase and is easy to apply. I would advise safety glasses and gloves, however. I also remove it immediately upon application with fresh water from a garden hose. Then apply a good coat of wax. Hope this information is helpful.
