Hull Indentation

Hi - I am doing a search to see if anyone has experienced a problem or knows someone who has experienced a problem, with an indentation appearing on the hull below the waterline,on the port side, about where the head is located (on a 1991 Hunter 30T). On my hull it is concaved about two feet in diameter to a depth of about one and one-half inches at the center. In particular, when the boat is out of the water in a sling or on a cradle, and did it go back to shape when back in the water? If you have: What was the diagnosis of the problem? What was the fix? What support did you get from the manufacturer and/or the dealer? I would appreciate a quick response on this query, thanks.

delamination?

I believe this is caused by delamination of the fiberglass. I have a similar indentation, about 12" round, and it's also slightly soft (at least compared to the rest of the hull).

Had a similar problem!

I had a surveyor find a soft spot on my hull under the head. I contacted Hunter and found that they should have added an extra stringer in the hull at that area. They offered a few hundred dollars to help fix it (can't remember the amount, its been a few years), but I decided against it at that time.When I pulled the boat last fall, I found a similar situation to what you describe above. I cut out the floor in the head using a Rotozip tool (nice, neat cut, following the edge of the black rubber floor mat), fabricated a couple stringers out of plastic decking material, and epoxied them in place. I screwed the floor back in place on top of the stringers, caulked it, and its hard to tell this area was ever cut out. The hull is now solid, and from inspections both inside the hull and out, no delamination took place.Its a couple day job, but definitely doable. Just run the Rotozip down a little at a time to keep from cutting thru the hull. My head floor was over an inch thick, and I had several inches of space between the bottom of the floor and the hull.Good luck!
