Is the HULL # only stamped into the little metal plate on the transom?

The reason I ask is that I am pretty sure that the number on the plate and the number in the middle of my Hull ID on my paperwork didn't match.
I'll have to check it again tomorrow. But, is there any other place that it should be? The metal plate is not stamped very hard and is difficult to read.

Hull ID# is also on starboard top of the transom. If the boat has been repainted the number may be tough to read because the paint might fill on a bit.

If it hard to read, do a gravestone rubbing. Hold a piece of paper over the number and rub a pencil over it. You will get an image of the hull number.

Hull numbers are in 2 places, on the starboard top of the transom and some other place that builder chose. The second one is hidden to be used if the boat is stolen and the original number was removed.

When you get the ID numbers straightened out, here's a suggestion given to me by the Coast Guard when I changed owners on my documented vessel.

Find a secret place only you know on the boat & also put the hull# there also. In case your boat is stolen & they change the numbers (which is done alot), you can identify your boat to the authorities.

Just something to keep in mind pal.

Okay, it all matches! Hull # 4798.
I still only found it on the metal plate riveted to the transom, and the lower half of the numbers are barely readable. The only text I can see on the plate is: "C-30 4798".

Good advice on marking the boat somewhere else.
