Hull dimple question

I am considering the purchase of a 1987 O'Day 322. The boat seems to be in pretty good shape except for a dimple on the port side. By "dimple" I mean an area where the hull is pulled in on either side of a flat spot. This dimple seems to be in line with the main chainplate for the port shroud. The boat is currently out of the water, and I was wondering if the dimple could be caused by an overtightened shroud? Has anyone experienced the same thing? I'd like to know if this is a major structural defect or the result of an over zealous rigger.

get is surveyed!

K - Without seeing the boat its really hard to tell you what the cause of this feature is. Fiberglass is flexible, so it is possible that the shroud is overtightened, or that the hull has flexed from the way it is being supported, but without an examination its impossible to tell you with certainty. I would definitely have it surveyed if you are thinking about buying. If the boat is otherwise one you are interested in then the cost of the survey is well justified. Your insurance company will probably require it anyway. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
