Hull/Deck Rivets

Hello all,
I have a 1978 Oday 30 which in stripping off the lovely mildew ridden fabric and foam from the hull I found the (steel)hull/deck bond rivets largely corroded away. Looking under the rub rail I found many do not even have a head on them anymore. I am wondering how much these rivets are a structural part of the bonding
and what is best to use in replacing them. The original rivets don't appear to be a structural type rivet. I have aluminum blind rivets the proper size but don't know if they are sufficient. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i have a 1979 o'day 30. exactly where are these rivets are you speaking of? several years ago i had to replace my rub rail. i removed all of it and didn't find any rivets in the hull to topside joint. mine had countersunk screws about on 6" centers. if they are on close centers then they may have changed the method of attachment on my model year and later. if its only a few then maybe they just put some rivets in to hold it in place for putting the other fasteners in.
if they are every few inches then they are part of the structural integrity as a whole.

Same on my '84 222

No rivets on mine. Of course, totally different year and model so could very likely be different on mine, but I have countersunk ss screws holding my hull-deck joint together.

Thanks for the input. I will give Rudy a call since there seems to be several
configurations for the same joint. On mine they are 1/4" steel rivets, 8" on
center under the rub rail. What posessed them to use steel rivets is beyond me. Thanks again,

I ALSO REPLACED MY RUBRAIL A FEW YEARS BACK AND ONLY FOUND S/S #10 SCEWS TO HOLD THE BACK PIECE AND THE 2 HALVES TOGETHER . I PUT IN NEW WHERE NECCESSARY AND USED THE ORIGINAL WHEREVER POSSIBLE.
