Hi all -- I would like to paint my hull and deck this spring and have been investigating possible materials. I will be limited to rolling and brushing. I am familiar with Interlux Perfection but have come across another paint manufactured and sold by Signature Paints that seems to have several advantages. In particular, the manufacturer says that it can be applied directly over my existing one part non skid paint. I believe that the Signature Paint is a two part urethane. Does anyone have any knowledge about this paint or experience with it? Are there any comments about the the durability of urethane paint compared with polyurethane paint? do your on research on this one.. I would stop being a yachtsman and would go to the McCormack paint store and but their Interlock direct to metal urethane enamel. I have used it on a fiberglass dinghy that is kept outside without cover. The paint is for years old now and still in good shape. The local McCormack's store used it on their warehouse floor three years ago and it looks perfect today. It sells for about 40 bucks a gallon.

I don't know about the McCormack paints that Ross mentioned, but there are several different formulas and brands of urethanes available, that are not listed as marine paints but are just as good, and very possible the same thing, as the marine brands. Lots of stuff on the market which is labeled marine is exactly the same thing as non marine, just labeled differently. I don't think I would go to the bother of the two parts, as there are a lot of one part paints now available that are very good. Some available at Home Depot and Lowes.

I tend to get suspicious as a cat about
revolutionary new anything. Especially if they call it "top secret". Give me a paint manufacturer with a long history in industrial coatings. There is no shortage of reputable paint formulators and paint chemistry is no longer a mystery. I did some googling after my first post on this thread. I won't attempt to paraphrase what I learned but entering a search for: water borne urethane paints, VOC compliant industrial coatings, and exterior structural corrosion control coatings is a good way to start.
