Hull/deck leaks

Hi guys!

I want to fix the leakage between the hull and deck. I dont know where
it leaks, I bought the boat this spring and the former owner had put
silicon or something all the way around the seam between deck and
hull. A little unsightly. Since the boat is in very good shape
otherwise I want to make her shipshape again. Any ideas how to go
about it?

I'm in the process of cleaning her out and making a dinette on port
side, so there is no problem taking things apart. Next season, which
begins in May 1 here in sweden, she will be a godess! :)

Hallo Leuder,
Have you any idea where I might find an original "Bugkorb" or at least one that will easily fit? Mine is beyond repair.

Hi Frank, no idea where to get a pulpit for your Vega. But give
the "Deutsche Klassenvereinigung" (Start - Albin-Vega Klassenvereinigung) a try
and post your request there. There is s good chance to find somebody.
You can also try the dutch site (Vega Kring). Good luck!
Do we meet at Eckernförde next year?

Thanks for the reply Leuder. I have already posted a couple of messages on the German site (no luck yet). I will also try the Dutch site. As for Eckernfoerde, I would love to go, but due to the school vacation schedule here in Schleswig-Holstein it doesn\'t look like I can make it. Summer vacation starts on the 10th of July, and I want to get down to the Costa del Sol in southern Spain before September via the French Canals. Schade !! I am sure everyone is going to have a great time.

Hi!
I thought I had looked at ALL the pictures in the archive, but I had
missed yours. Very nice work indeed! I'll look at it some more, I'm
sure there are ideas I want to use already.

No one got tips about hull/deck leaks?

Hello Roger, I had a small leak in the hull deck joint. I have fixed
it temporarily with pushing in the mastic with a kitchen knife. From
my exprience with other boats do not turn the screws of the hull deck
joint. This will break the seal. You may tighten the bolts with a
deep socket wrench from the inside. I suggest that you remove all the
silicone. Silicone is only a gasket material with no sealant
properties. I am pleasantly surprised with the watertightnes of our
Vega. And she has been aroubd he world. I am going o buy some more
mastic which I will force into the joint where it has leaked.

Roger, we used a circular saw set to cut at about 1/4" to cut between the
hull and deck. We filled the cut with thickened epoxy. It worked well. Cut
slowly and carefully. Walt
