Is the hull of the 1990 catalina 30 cord or straight fiberglass? I am trying to put a transducer for a fishfinder without drilling any holes. Please help.

hull material on 39

On my 88 catalina 30, the hull was solid fiberglass. I placed my depth dransducer under the galley sink on the inside of the hull. I put a large glob of silicone on the inside of the hull set the transducer in the silicone. I had done this as a temporary measure because the one that went through the hull had gone bad. The new one worked perfect the inside and actually better than the old one. It is still that way on the boat after 8 years and working great. Just make sure there are no air bubbles in the silicone and if you have a wing keel, do not place above the wings.

Try Toilet Bowl Wax!!

Here's the strangest idea I ever ran across for temporarily fastening a transducer while looking for the right location -- toilet bowl wax! Buy a wax toilet mounting ring and use the beeswax-like wax to mount your transducer as you experiment for the best location. It's quicker than silicone since you don't have to wait for anything to harden. I mounted my depth finder transducer that way 3 years ago and haven't got around to permanent mounting yet. By the way, the hull is solid.
