If your hull is dull and chalky, I think there's only one single-step way to get the shine back: pay someone else to buff it out! I tried Island Girl, and it works OK, but it's a rather long and tedious process. Buffing our '23' with 3M rubbing compound/polishing compound and then waxing took about 8 hours and the hull looks great(of course my arms damned near fell off!). One thing I found out though: the cheap "buffers" don't work well for compounding. You need a high-speed wheel, lots of compound, and allot of care. Unfortunately, this is a 3-step process!

Island Girl

I tried it this year for the first time -- confusing but easy

Forget the "One Step"

I'd forget the one step products and go to Island Girl. They are a little more costly and you need to follow the directions religiously, but it's worth it. Since your boat is on a trailer, it shouldn't be that much work. It's more time than elbow grease and you don't need any power equipment. The extra cost is easily offset by the saved hard labor and the $ you'll save by not buying innumerable types of cleaners and waxes until you find one that works.

Try the hull cleaners

If you are trying to get off that nasty yellow that gets on by the waterline, you should try the hull cleaners by starbrite. They work great. Read the instructions and use gloves. Most of these contain wood bleach. You can pick this up at your local hardware store and save a lot. After you clean the hull you can get some turtle wax car wash with wax in the wash. It will make your hull look good but it does not last long. If you want to do it right have someone buff the entire boat.

Why spend all that money

I use a toilet bowl cleaner (sno-bol)for the ICW beard and immediatly hose it off for about $2 you get a clean hull. Just keep it away from the metal parts. The barnicles hate that stuff Cole
