Hula Skirt

Last season we were heavy in the water which caused green algae to form a hula skirt around the boat. I scrubbed it from my dingy three times to get rid of it. Is there a wax to combat the growth or should I just raise the bottom paint? :cussing:

Raise the bottom paint if you're going to be that heavily loaded on a regular basis. IMHO, you should generally have a tiny bit of bottom paint above the water when the boat is loaded for normal use.

Water Line

I have my boat with the bottom paint approx. 4 " above the normal water line. This allows for heavy loading if needed, and some margin for error.

I did the same thing, just painted the bottom paint on up to the top of the boot top. Looked fine, nobody ever said, "Yetch, no boot top!". One less thing to paint in the spring and no Hula Skirt. Don't need no stinking boot top

Sand and Paint the boot top with bottom paint. If you like bootops paint a new one above where the old one was

I really spent some time last season in the water and also when I had the boat pulled cleaning that stuff. If I miss those hula skirts too much, I may as well sail untill I find some. I spent the whole day shoveling my roof. For you folks down south thats where the ocean turns into a frosty mix and lands on top of your house. Once clean, the houses and owners are judged on creativity and ingenuity by the local ER.

I Like Painting the Boot Stripe

I did the same with ablative paint. It worked very well. The only prep I did was a light sanding of the boot stripe.
