Hr. Meter hookup for a outboard.

Im installing a new outboard (Nissan 9.8) it has alternator charging, I would like to put a hr. meter to record the running time of the motor.  Where do I hook it up to?  What kind of meter do I use, AC or DC?

12v Charging outlet

John, I think you have a 12v outlet for charging trolling batt's?? (My 7 1/2 honda does) Anyway if it does you could mount a standard 12v hr meter at the transom and use the plug supplied with motor to plug it in.. because it doesn't have voltage unless the motor is running you may just leave it plugged in all the time and it will record the running time.
