How would you cover this up?

This is a shot of the two holes near my sink. The sink slides in and stows away (thus the folding tap).

I would like to cover up these holes and make it look better.

Any suggestions?

You could do an inlay with a router, a pattern and collars.
Have to pull the sink first, though.

Or maybe find some sink cover plates, as you might use to cover an un-needed sprayer hole in a stainless sink?

I would cut plywood plugs to fit the holes snug and then glue or epoxy them in.... then fill and fair with wood filler.
there are several good waterproof wood glues and waterproof wood fillers at lowes or home depot to choose from....

What were the holes used for? Perhaps you can install a soap dispenser in one and cover the other hole with a sponge holder.

Perhaps a forstner bit to make a clean hole. Then a slice of a wood dowel that can be glued in?

Pull sink and cover entire top with a wood grained Formica?
after looking at the photo again, and the obvious damage to the existing surface, plugging the holes and overlaying with a laminate would be the best and easiest way to get it to look good and last nearly forever....

I would hate to cover that teak veneer with a laminate. I would just improvise with teak accessories i.e. cup holders, toothbrush holder etc. Even 2 solid pieces of round teak with the edges rounded would look good. a bead of silicon along the edges is all you need. Ebay has round pieces of teak cheap.

if you look at the photo more closely, you will see that covering it up with a laminate would make it look better... or replacing the veneer. its already water damaged with holes in it, and beyond ever looking good again....even if one was to silicone a patch over it.
but I would agree that a person could pile stuff on it to hide the damage, but with that method, its still only hiding the beauty/ugly of the teak veneer/damage.... its my opinion that it would be a much better option to fix it rather than to try and hide it.

Sounds good. I put black marble laminate on mine but it had laminate to start with. I guess the contact cement will bond ok with the oiled teak?

I will probably cover it with something but I don't want to pull the sink. The old holes were for old faucets, at least one of them. That top slides out and the max clearance is 3.5" so the folding tap barely fits in there.

Maybe I could take a bamboo cutting board and cut it to fit that area and lift out so it can be washed. It would be usable counter space then.

I agree with centerline. jig the holes square, bevel the edges 45 deg. as you cut, and lay in and glue a plug. Easy peasy...

Or you could tile it. If the tile pieces are large enough and happen to cover the hole... done.

I am thinking of putting a cup holder inside of the big hole. I will put my liquid dish soap in the cup holder.

Maybe I will work on covering up the other part with a holder for my dish washing sponge. If I do this I will fill the hole so that it is water tight but it doesn't matter what I fill it with if I cover it.

I covered an un-needed hole by the sink with a soap dish that I use for a sponge and a dish brush. You're on the right track with any of the options listed here.
