It was a mixed bag for me this year. A new boat is always a thrill, but due to some repairs that both the owner and I had to do I didn't launch until the weekend after the Fourth of July, which was a bummer.
Sailing the boat up, which was a three day trip, was a great experience. I probably sailed more hours this year than typical, just because of the 30 odd hours the trip took. Sailing is something of a misnomer, as we power sailed most of the way, but it was nice to spend a block of time aboard her. For me it was a big milestone, because I finally achieved my long sought dream of buying a nice 30 foot boat and taking my first decent sized trip in her (180 miles). The first night when we pulled into Stonington CT and had a great dinner after logging our first 50 miles was memorable.
We had some nice day sails in August, which was surprisingly windy this year, but Sept has been a total loss due to a bout of flu followed up with pneumonia. I might have to go AWOL from work tomorrow...15-20 knots and low 60's...it could be my last opportunity for a great day of sailing.
How has everyone else's season been so far? Of course, some of you sail year round, but that has had its own interruptions too this year with some nasty hurricanes.
