How to sell a boat

I have seen questions on the best way to sell a boat. This ad comes as close to what I'd like to see in an ad as I've found. http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/in...er&page=showad&adid=8857&catid=793&Itemid=264 Other than at least one typo, the pictures make me want the boat! No, I don't have a quarter million dollars, but dang I'd love to have it. They really show the interior the way I think it should be shown. (Ok, it could use a hot chick somewhere in the pictures, but the boat still looks nice on its own.)

The owner must be a realtor. ;) They cleaned and staged the interior, then took good photos. Exactly how it's done in real estate. I agree, very nice boat.

Take some pictures of your own boats. See how they come out. Should give ya a good idea of how it'll look, even if you're not selling it. Anyway, it'll give you a good reason to clean up! :):):)

Staging and good high quality photos are the keys to selling a house or boat. I staged my house in 2010 and it sold in 6 weeks above the realtor's recommended price. Sold my Ericson 35 that year also for 35% above YW starting prices.

Of course your house or boat has to be in great condition to start with.

So many boats we looked at in 2010 that were not even clean. I see that as lack of basic owner maintenance and an indication of lots of deferred maintenance.

My wife and I even made improvements and cleaned the house and boat again after they were under contract.

Great advice, Stu. But I don't really need to do that as long as I have my First Mate keeping me keeping it clean. Actually, she keeps it clean and I do my best to keep things working properly. You know, keeping the water on the correct side of the hull, the sails going up when they should go up and down when they should go down - stuff like that.

Kermit, buddy, believe me that when (not if) you boat gets bigger, that division of labor will NOT work unless your Admiral is a real slave. You'll have a mutiny on your hands if you don't keep up with cleaning, too, yourself, skipper. :)
