How to replace/or clean waste holding tank sending unit for Hunter 376

My waste holding tank for 1999 Hunter 376 just got pumped out. The tank gauge still shows tank is 1/3 full, same as before I pumped it out. I just bought the boat in January 2016. This is the first time I pumped out waste tank. I believe the float may be stuck.

It looks easy to unscrew (6) screws to pull it out. Appears caulking under sending unit flange as sealed it tight to the tank. My other question is? How do you unplug the wires from the top of the sending unit? It appears wires do not plug into top of sending unit and is fixed to the sending unit. Do I have cut sending unit wires to take unit out and then re splice wires when I replace unit back to tank?

Ron, this is a chronic problem in holding tanks. You will probably have to cut the wires. I cleaned my sensor but the problem reoccurred within a year. See this post on cleaning:

The best long term solution is to cut the wires to the old sending unit and go to an external type tank level sensor. Here's a report on what I did:

The new sensor has worked perfectly now since installation.
