While checking over my old 23 to get ready for our first outing of the year, I noticed that the captive pin on the boom that holds the tack of the main is about wore out. The little pin that keeps it from backing out is almost all worn off. How can I repair it? I was thinking about drilling it out and driving in a small squeeze pin, then cutting that to the right length. Is there a better way?

I'd think that would work just fine. I would make sure to get a stainless pin to replace it with. To avoid rust.
I had a fast pin on my goose neck fitting years ago and one day it worked itself out while I was sailing. I replaced it with a spare pin that I had in my box and when I got home I took the fast pin and drilled out the hole where the ball was located and used a large round cotter type pin in the hole. I bent the end of the cotter pin a little so that I can insert it into the pin easier and it's worked great for a lot of years. I've never trusted fast pins after that. However I use a press button quick pin on my forestay with my CDI Roller furler and it's never worked it's way out.
