I would like to replace the windows in my O'Day 272LE without breaking to use as a template for new windows. Having removed the screws, I am unable to push the windows out from inside the cabin. Does anyone have experience in replacing cabin widows? Mine are opaque.

Rudy at D and R Marine sells the windows you are looking to replace. Buying from him will allow you to not worry about breaking them because they are already cut to fit though you'll want to use the old one for a hole pattern but even a broken one can get you that. As for removing them, my guess is that the sealant is still holding strong so you'll have to break that seal. Try a putty knife.

I removed windows from a catalina 27. After I removed the screws I took the corner of a putty knife and made several passes about an eighth of an inch at a time cutting the sealant. I worked from the outside. Work slow and be patient.
I replaced my windows in my 272. The screws are not there to hold the windows on. They are just there to hold the lexan in place while the Dow 795 black sealant dries. You could even remove the screws after installation, but no one does.
Insert a long putty knife and slowly cut the sealant away from the hull. It isn't easy because the seal is several inches wide.
And yes, Rudy at DR Marine has the windows. They are around $85 each. You could probably get them cut locally for less. DR Marine's windows require you to use yours for templates to match the screw holes.
Do NOT overtighten the screws! If the lexan is dimpled under the screw as you look along its length, loosen the screws. After the sealant dries, check it again. The only way the screws are too loose is is they are missing! Remember, the screws are superfluous onces the sealant dries.
I bought my windows at DR Marine, and they were perfect replacements, but a bit pricey. I will make my own next time.

I removed the windows on my 272 to replace the sealant. Instructions from Andrew are right on. I used a 9" Chuppa SS knife vs putty knife. Blade is very bendy so I could get the knife around window easily. Sealant on mine was only about 1/2" wide - may be why it was leaking. You may be tempted to scrape 'gunk' off backside, but you'll scrape off tint also. Then white of cabintop will look like streaks through the window.

The 272 has 3 windows. The forward window is false except for the opening for the Beckson's port. To keep the white gelcoat from showing behind the window, you will lightly buff the back of the window with either 600 grit sandpaper or 00 steel wool and paint it flat black.
Also, after you glue the windows, you will go back with the Dow sealant and fill-in the edges completely.
