I need to take the pulpit off my O'day 23. (1983) I think the mounts are leaking and may need cored. I leaned against it and it dipped slightly and water appeared under the mounting pad.

Will anyone on this list who is familiar with the process of removing the pulpit please give me some tips?

Thanks

You may have cutouts in the vee berth portion of the cabin liner. Lie on your back and feel around the cloth liner at the hull/deck joint. On mine, there are cut outs for the aft portions of the bow pulpit. To get to the ones at the bow, I imagine you need to reach up there- they are behind the little bulkhead on my boat. Those seem like they would be difficult to get to and may be the reason why some owners have installed deck plates there.

I ecko the last post. We removed that small bulkhead for better access. I had my son head first in the v-birth with a socket and I turned with another socket from up above. A bit tricker getting it back together but not to bad.
Only trouble we had was my son got sea sick from having his head stuffed in the bow while I was rocking the boat on the trailer working from above. It is now family loore how he got sea sick in the driveway.
