How to remove painted boat name

1: Dename the boat properly by inbibing the gods and goddeses of the sea.
2: As you found out; EasyOff works great.
3: Do the renaming ritual and imbibe the Gods and Goddeses properly.
I did step 3 both right after adding the new name, on the dry, and right after first launch. I figured having water all aroud her was a good thing.

I also removed the old hand painted on name. Since I was repainted the entire hull, I used sandpaper, gradually decreasing the grit size so that it was smooth to the touch (close your eyes and run your hand over the sanded area - if you can feel it, you will see it).

BTW, I did all this without the small g ceremonies and we've had our BEST sailing season yet!
I ordered our vinyl letters and registeration numbers from this company. I put them on both sides of Liberty and they look TERRIFIC. The price was reasonable, too.
