Hi everyone,

I need to refinish floor on my S2 9.2A, the old finish is almost gone. Can somebody guide me through the process from sanding to refinishing?

from the looks of your floor..... you need to use a cabinet scraper...its a metal card about 6 inches by 3 inches ..just get on your knees and scrape all the old finish up ...then block sand by hand with 220 grit or may have to use 180 grit...be very careful not to sand through the teak and holly ...ware a mask and use a shop vac ...if you don't know how to use a cabinet scraper google it and you will find something

Thank you, Woody. I will follow your scraping instructions.

Can you recommend a product to refinish with?

I think a vibrating sander would be easier. Mine allows me to switch from orbital to linear. It also has a port to attach a shop vac.

thats a hard one as there are many out there....i think chris patterson may know of a good one to use ....bowling alley finish is a good one but not sure where to get it ..you can use Helmsman's polyurethane from lowes or hd ...when you clean your sole .....if there are lots of ugly gouges and scars don't worry so much about them as you will never bring that floor back to new ...but it can look good and well kept for a 35 year old boat...if you want new you will have to put new t&h down ...lots of work...oh and don't power sand no matter how hard hand sanding may seem...just do what you can and take a breather or go home and start again the next day ....after all it took a long time to grow the trees and you will just have to be patient...good luck and post pics

On Our S2 9.2a I Sanded Our Floor With A Vibrating Sander, Then Varnished It With Sickens. Also Sanded The Teak Around The Galley And Varnished All The Teak Inside The Cabin. It Looks Great.

What do you think about using teak oil on wood on top of the cabin instead of varnish ?

when you say "on top of the cabin" I assume you are talking about hatch sliders/hand rails/etc. on the EXTERIOR of the boat. In which case I'd probably recommend Semco rather than teak oil. Or maybe Sikkens Cetol Marine. I don't feel teak oil has much longevity. Heard good reports on Semco. My Cetol has been lifting after 1 season. Not happy about that...

Search the forums, many, many opinions regarding teak protectant options.

that Will Work But It Is A Long Process To Use Teak Oil And Get 4 Coats ...has To Dry For 24 Hrs Each Coat And Maybe More Depending On The Humidity
