How to rebed the bow pulpit on a 1987

You can get to the underside of the front mounts through the existing anchor locker inspection port, but there is no access to be the aft mounts and the space inside the anchor locker does not have enough room for a 4in inspection port. Has anyone rebedded/replaced the bow pulpit on a 86-94 new design? how to you get to the underside of the aft mounts? I assume they are through bolts that were installed before they put the deck on the hull in the assembly.

The first two listings on amazon are for stainless 3" when I searched for "3in inspection port". If it's inside the cabin, you might be able to use a ceiling fan cover plate. I did this in an aft berth once. It looked decent. If all else fails, you might be able to make or 3D print a cover

You are asking for “all years” of the New Design boat. You will need to install inspection ports on both the starboard and port sides of the anchor locker to access the aft mounts. I believe that 4” will work, you can do a search on this forum to confirm what others have installed. My research indicated 4” ports will work for me but, I have an ‘88 boat and I do not know if your ‘87 anchor locker is different from mine. This is one of those “future projects” for me. I have both the hole saw and inspection ports ready and waiting for when the time comes. The hole saw is daunting. I don’t look forward to this project! lol

Keep in mind that when shopping for inspection ports what you see is the outside of the sealing plate and it makes the inspection port look much larger than the hole cut out dimension. The best thing IMO is if you can, purchase the inspection ports and then locate the inspection port support plates in place and then see exactly where and how the ports fit in your anchor locker.

Sea Flo doesn't have a 3" but they do list exact dimensions listed for the 4" including ID, OD cutout size, etc. I 3D printed an adapter to make one of their ports, surface mountable

I installed ports on each side to rebed (and reinforce!) the cleats, as well as give more access to the forward pulpit legs:

I drilled these round holes to access the aft pulpit legs, but then I found out they weren't really necessary because ...

... the aft legs don't have any nuts under them, just these thin stainless plates, somewhat "imbedded" under the deck.

Any idea if those plates were original? I can't imagine how they would get those in later without the inspection ports you had to add to see them.

Yes, they have to be original. There's no way they could have been put there after the hull and deck were joined together.

Embedded plates are known to seize due to corrosion. I guess that's why Catalina switched to lag bolts which came with their own issues of loosening up
