That is just the way it is. When the cat is a way the mice will play, and get along, and .... they serve the owner. But they are also people and know what it means to be on the sea.
It is a wonder why sea going folk are different from Land folk. Perhaps we share a common mistress.
Personally, I think in many cases it's more about getting away from people and the social demands of society than a 'better than you' attitude. Most passengers and owners on these super expensive yachts normally live in a high-pressure world 24/7 and the demands can be draining.
A chance to get away, let down their hair and just relax is the reason many are on board. A week with no phones, no interactions with others outside their family, or decisions to make, is the ideal vacation.
Many of these passengers are in the limelight, (rock stars, society people, actors, etc) and on vacation, the last thing they want is fans, critics or the chance of being found by the paparazzi, so they remain insular.
And then there are the rich snobs who........
