Photo of one of my slip neighbors at Chicks Marina in Kennebunkport. My modest boat is in the foreground. Their fender is larger than my wife.

What do you suppose those things weigh?!
How about Stowage!!!

My problem with @RoyS photo is they actually believe that finger pier will resist that Big Boats docking force.:kick:

Jim, like Ron, I watched a few episodes of “below deck” on the bravo channel. They actually deflate those fenders to store and reinflate them when they return to dock. With a deck crew of 4, captain, engineer, chef, 3 cabin stewards; no problem!

With that much deck flair
Nice neighbor Roy. They are stealing your view
They are your view.

With that much deck flair, I would think the top of the pilings would be more of an issue than the dock itself.

These ridiculous mega-yachts are a big problem in Kennebunkport. This port is strategically placed for coastal cruisers, almost a singular required stop. When these boats arrive, sometimes several at once, they take most of the available dock space for transients. Others are turned away. They also block the only fuel dock in Kennebunkport. If you are lucky enough to be docked nearby, do not be surprised to be breathing generator exhaust all night. Their electrical system requirements are larger than the shore power available. Chicks will loan you a CO detector for the night. Oh, and you will not see the sun again until they leave.

We get all those monstrosities each year down here. Most are super ugly displays of wealth, not even the classy grand old dames of yesteryear, but there is no point in raging against them. They treat the islands as their own, setting up private places on the public beaches, with umbrellas and beach chairs, race their water toys around the anchorages, and if you are Justin Beiber, the country of Grenada will pull it's proverbial tail between it's legs and allow you to jet ski in a country that hasn't allowed them in their waters in years.
But, just like the cruise ships, it's all about money. A mega yacht will spend more money in a country in a week than ten cruisers will in a month. In St. George's (and probably other places, but this I do not know as fact) the mega yachts are required to have a pilot to dock at the marina! That alone is probably equal to half a dozen trips to the market, and the money goes directly to the government.
So, you can either rage against them or jump in your dink and take a jump drive over to one, while anchored in the Tobago Cays where we can't get internet, and ask then to download the weather to your jump drive.

We get some pretty big ones here too. The 533' Eclipse was probably the biggest I have seen this year. When it fueled up, they had to bring in a tanker. The shore side tanks didn't have enough.

super ugly displays of wealth
I do not know of a pretty unassuming way to display wealth. Perhpas if you were to hide it on a private island somewhere, but those who got it rarely care what others may think... How were the possible winners of the billionaire lottery going to deal with their winnings. Hide it in a bank?

What rankles most, me included, is the overt gestures, the careless attitude. It is the kind of "I'm better than you" philosophy that causes individuals to rise up and revolt against a king....

Just guessing here, if the owners of such a grandiose vessel pulled up in the slip next to you and invited you to dinner, you'd say no way will I step on to a boat 10 times the size of mine.

Now giving a shout out to the Captain of the ship for a little weather help seems only neighborly. And if the crew were to say, come aboard and have a beer while the systems boot up and download the data, that might meet with approval.

It is about money. Maybe we all need a "Come fund me account". After all Christmas will be here before we know it.

I've been aboard these boat many a time, when they do not have owners or guests aboard; that's just the rules!
When my fuel injection pump failed in Bermuda, and a new one was really big Bermuda bucks (Bermuda bucks are really big to start with) the engineer of one of these mega-yachts and I went down to his all shiny SS engine room work bench and tore it down, found the problem, and repaired it. After that it was meals aboard, use of their washing machines and even a barbeque on their dock with them.
But, just to impress upon you again, when owners or guests are aboard these boats, you will not be invited aboard.

That is just the way it is. When the cat is a way the mice will play, and get along, and .... they serve the owner. But they are also people and know what it means to be on the sea.

It is a wonder why sea going folk are different from Land folk. Perhaps we share a common mistress.
