We seem to have difficulty attaching our spinnaker bag . . .the type with a metal circle at the top, that mounts on the bow pulpit. I see these on other boats . . .that have larger bow pulpit fittings and certainly do not have the "U" for the mast when being trailered. What is the best way to compensate? Seems me and my faithful crew have an adventure getting our spinnaker up and down . . .it great once we get it set . . .Please advise . . .

through the hatch

i used to race 110's i had a tube under the deck connected to a hatch on deck with control lines to open and close the hatch now what if you mounted your bag under the forward cabin hatch and put your launcher in the hatch ? you could have the sheets already connected all you would have to do is open the hatch attatch the halyard and hall it up you could also run a light retreival line through the cabin to douse it ?

I appreciate your response . . .

I had a similar reply from a J-22 sailor. Help me here . . .We round the leeward mark (on the port)and turn upwind . . .on either tack . . .we need to unfurl the jib to the leeward . . .How and what is the best technique to get the spinnaker down and back into the boat. I have tried bearing off to blanket the spinnaker with the main . . .but this lowers boat speed and takes us essentially out of competition. Meanwhile . . .if I lower the spinnaker too fast it gets in the water and with my crew on the fordeck I cannot deploy the jib. How would you attach the "light retrival line"?

light retrieval line

i had a grommet in my chute just about dead center i had a continuous halyard half of it was 3/8 for raising the chute and the other half was 3/16 for retrieval in your case you could probably go with a non continuos halyard and tie the retrieval line to the life lines before you deploy as for technique what i used to do was this as i was rounding the mark i would start to pull on the retriever have a crew release the pole uphaul and haul the chute back in the tube as the chute begins to enter the tube cut loose the sheet and the afterguy hopfully by this time crew has pole down and your about passing the mark cut lose the furling line and grab the jib sheet and trim
