I need your assistance. I have a 1987 Hunter 26.5 that I am in the process of updating and refinishing.

My cabin sole was just replaced back in 2005, but because of the poor fitting companionway, I just cant seem to keep the water out.

I would like your ideas and suggestions, and especially photos if you have them of what I should do to modify my stock companionway to make it watertight. I also have wasps coming through the gaps and building their homes inside of the cabin as well.

Please help! Thanks in advance!

Canvas cover

The best way to do it is to make a canvas cover that snaps in place over the companionway and sheds the water off like an umbrella. You really can't seal up the companionway like the ports. It is intended to allow air flow through the boat.

I'm thinking about a canvas cover also, more as a way to keep the brightwork covered, I hadn't considered that it would also keep out water. (Fortunately I don't get a lot through the hatch)

Please take a photo of the top of the cabin/companionway. Also advise if there is a dodger on that boat or not. It would help.
