There have been frequent discussions on this forum regarding how long it takes to lower the mast of a trailerable sailboat. Some sailors claim they can do it in an hour or less. While in Florida last week I set the record for unstepping the mast of a trailerable sailboat. If you are interested in my technique go to this link. http://kobernus.com/accident/index.html

Excellent job . . .

de-masting the boat. I would imagine that it took only seconds to do. I am surprised to see little/no boat damage. It looks like it was all the mast that took the beating.

More on the H260 Demasting

As Ted observed, I expected a huge bill and lots of damage to the boat. However, the boat itself survived without a scratch. New headsail, wheel, spar and spreader constitute the bulk of the expense. About $3600. I reported the incident on Monday and Tuesday morning I was advised that a check was on it's way.

You are on to something!

I am thinking that if you had a rear mast support with say a u shape to it then drving into a power line or over pass would put it right were it needs to go. Done my share of stupid things!
