highly recommend a full-face respirator over the half-mask and goggles. more comfortable and provides a lot better protection

Here, here!!!

Yup, got a painters half face mask with replaceable filters on both sides and welders eye gogles with clear glass. It has been cool enough to wear a full set of old sweats and gloves so everything but the ears and forehead are covered. Old ball cape on the old pate.

We are replacing the bunks and carpet on the new ones at the same time.

Our boat had old carpet inside and we removed it. We are sanding the old glue off as much as possible to get the surface as even as we can. Been trying to find a product to coat over the old glue and scuffed up fiberglass. Came across this stuff today. Looks like an answer to prayer.

Comes in non skid and smooth, and an assortment of colors. Not cheap, but looks like it will do what I want.

Cheers,

Tom...

I scraped and sanded my bottom paint off this spring - nasty job.. I hand sanded what I couldn't scrape and someone suggested "wet sanding" and I did this using standard hardware store sandpaper. I just kept a water spray bottle handy and kept the hull wet as I sanded. The sand paper gums up fairly quickly - but it also pretty much completely contained the old paint and there was no dust. Ie, water spray the area to be sanded, sand, throw the sand paper in a trash bag, water spray again and then wipe area with paper towel. All the old paint is contained in the gummed up sandpaper and the paper towels. I went through maybe 20 sheets of sand paper and three rolls of paper towels but had almost no dust.

I experimented with sanding off the anti-fouling, but thought it was too much effort and potentially too nasty to the environment, not to mention the person on the non-scratchy side of the sander.

I ended up using soy-based strippers - less manual work, water cleanup, no bunny-suit, no respirator, and all the stripped glop ended up on the plastic drop-sheets under the boat. It stripped right to the gelcoat too, but didn't harm it.

wear a tyvek suit qnd use a catch bag on your sander--the vacuum cleaner function is the best kind---sand and vacuum at same time--no dust....that stuff is not good for skin....

We use Acetone except when needing to replace barrier coats or switching from soft to hard or vice versa. The only time we sand is to fair chip edges and we use vacuum sanding.

I got some Sea Hawk with 30% copper in a Navy blue color. I had thought that I was just buying fresh water paint with no copper, but that is what I was shipped. We haven't applied it yet, wind, rain and cold weather here for the past 2 weeks. Have to wait for warm weather.

We are dealing with the carpet glue inside right now. Once that is done, we are going to Poly/HiGloss the wood inside the boat and the little that is on the outside.

We are painting the inside vertical hull walls and over head with Eazy Poxy Bright White to get rid of that hideous yellow interior color.

We are putting down this product on the deck to cover the residual glue that we can't get rid of and finish everything else up.

Let know how it goes. I'll be doing the same, probably this fall. I had hoped to paint her this spring but cold weather and things of life came up. I was looking for paint at one time and found a couple that boasted topside paint shine and durability from the toe rail to the bottom of the keel. They claimed it would stand up to the rigors of trailor loading and be fine in the water for a week at a time. Perfect for those who tow. Right now it's dated blue ablative with the occasional black roller mark. Blah! The sides have been painted, with varying degrees of success, all by PO. So, I'll need to sand the entire hull, fill all those gouges from the warfs of yesteryear and repaint. Looking forward to it . . . not looking forward to it.
