I have a 1981 Hunter 30 that I would like to install a 4" Solar Vent on. I would like to put it forward of the mast, perhaps in the center or off to the port side over the head. I am not sure what material and how thick it is to cut the hole through. Is there more than just the deck material - for instance any insulation and then the interior cabin roof? Are there any tricks or 'gotchas'? Should I just drill a hole and then use a jig saw to cut the hole to the correct size? I am leary of just doing this, without knowing what I'm getting into.
