How to get water oput of the forward fresh water tank?

My forward fresh water tank is not emptying. (The starboard settee tan k works fine.) I saw an older post about a 'manifold' (They had 5 tanks) but I can not see one in this boat. There is a hose I gather goes from the forward tank to the starboard tank.

How is this setup? Is there a valve somewhere I need to turn to access the water in the v-berth tank? Are they separate, or does one feed the other?

Thanks!

Do you not have a shut off valve at the lower part of the tank under the V Berth? When I open my access door I can see a gate valve right there at the bottom of the tank. Sorry, didn't have a pic of the door open.

If you have one pump and 2 tanks then most have a tank discharge at bottom, using the tank water level (gravity) to feed the pump. Most boats have a "Tee" (with 2 tanks ) to feed the pump.

Each tank must have an air vent to allow air in, as water flows out.

Assuming both tank vents are working, both tanks feeding the pump, then the water levels will equalize levels (unless you have a back flow preventer).

Has your forward tank ever emptied?

Do you notice both tank levels dropping at same time?

My boat has two tank discharge valves that allows me to easily switch tanks.

I would start at pump intake and trace line backwards to the tank.

Go to the INTERNATIONAL CATALINA 30 ASSOCIATION which was recently renamed THE CATALINA 30/309 BOAT OWNERS ASSOCIATION. There, you will find all things Catalina 30! Once on this site, check out in the left column the "C30 Parts Manual", go to Section 4(electrical and plumbing) and you will see the schematics and flow diagrams in addition to all the parts listing for the two separate water tank systems (v-berth tank, v-berth and settee tank). This should help to explain your system components and flow. The parts manual is for "Circa 1980 Parts", which probably includes your 1985 model or Mark I.

This website is loaded with stuff as a great ready reference for the Catalina 30.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the replies.

Looking at the aforementioned SYSTEMS manual, (Manual pg 54, PDF pg 4) I do not see anything labeled as 'vent'. I was told one of the stanchions is a vent, would both tanks share it? There was a hose that is collapsed and bent over (It will not stay upright on its own) coming out of the v-berth tank, perhaps that is for its vent. Unfortunately I am over an hour away from the boat, so I can't look at this time.

As to a shutoff behind the door in the v-berth, I do not recall seeing one, but will check. (Again, not in the SYSTEMS diagram.) The only thing I recall seeing behind that door are the sensors for the speed log and depth sounder.

The stanchion with the vent is the one just aft of the water fill. On the forward tank itself there is a valve.
