Lower your trailer gooseneck to the ground. This will lift the rear of the boat.
Place a sawhorse under with proper cushioning.
Lift the front of the trailer and place a sawhorse under the hull in the front.

Don't think that would work. This boat weighs 5300 lbs. Have to have very strong sawhorses.

We are going to use the car lift with straps so it will be like a stationary travel lift, off she comes, pull the trailer out and set her down on some substantial blocks of wood.

Thanks,

Tom...

I know this post is probably dead but here is something I did once and it worked really well. Where I live in Virginia we have very large oak trees. I used several of those ratchet towing straps and parked under a particularly large tree. Then I slowly pulled the boat up into a few branches using the ratchets. It took a while since you have to go from ratchet to ratchet a few inches at a time. Worked well and got the neighbors talking. What else could you want? At least it wasn't an engine block hanging from a tree branch.... oh wait that is another state nearby.

If you cannot get enough lift to clear the bunks remove the wheels on the trailer and pull it out on the hubs. Second thing use old tires lots of those around and free to stack under the hull for safety and support. Also if some are filled with dirt they make a solid support.

Mic, Thanks for the good idea. I think we will have enough height to get the boat off an inch or so and pull out the trailer. If not, we will take the wheels off as you suggest and roll the trailer out from under while the boat is suspended. I have two chunks of white oak, 12X12X18 to set the keel down on, to support the weight and the straps will hold her steady.

Thanks again.

Sacrilege ----- I'll swap you some old tires for the 12 x 12 oak or at least some beatle killed B.C. pine.
Good luck take your time doing it and stay safe.

Jacking up a Catalina 22 on a trailer for bottom maintenance

I've read several posts on jacking up the Catalina 22. I'm about ready to do this. I have a double row of criss-crossed cinder blocks and padded 4' 6x6 to place under the stern close to the keel. I've done a couple small test lifts with my hydralic jack. I'm getting some "creaking" and what appears to be a slight "fllattening" of the keel area as more pressure is applied. I don't want to crack the hull. Is this a possibility? How can I improve my "shadetree" attempt of lifting the boat? Thanks

I was told by a Catalina 22 dealer that you shouldn't put the weight of these boats on the keel because the hulls weren't made for that type of strain. He said that this was the prime reason why these boats were on flat bunk trailers and not roller trailers. This same dealer also had the O'Day line at the time when I bought my O'Day 222 through them at the Boston Boat Show back in 1986. I've been able to raise my boat with four sailboat stands and one powerboat stand under the bow. When I need to get the boat higher, I place the four stands near the stern close together, and place the jack under the bow close to the keel. The powerboat stand will also raise the bow of the boat. I think that you can do it the way that you're doing it, but you need to take some extra precautions.

I got my Venture 25 off the trailer by placing two oil drums under the stern and then using two jacks, jacking forward of the keel, moving trailer forward. and step walking the trailer from under the boat. Other solution. I placed four posts in the ground with cross members and used coffing hoist to pick up and move trailer. Lots of ways to skin thiis cat. Fair winds...
