Recently while sailing in an unfamiliar lake, I hit some stumps or something and damamged the centerboard gel goat. How do I work on the centerboard? Is the raw fiberglass that is exposed a serious problem? What's the best way to fix it? Is there a way to protect it better (I know PWC use some kind of material to protect their hulls when beaching)? Can the same treatment work for the rudder? Thanks, Mike

It would be nice to put gel back on and you should be able to get it from your dealer if nearby. Otherwise, it will have to be shipped and the cost for a small amount will be high due to it being classified hazardous material. If it is only a small amount, prep the area by lightly sanding and spray on outside type enamel. YOu do need to keep the glass sealed. Crazy Dave Condon

Is there a way to access while on trailer?

Thanks for the very fast response! Is there a way to access the centerboard while the boat is on the trailer (and centerboard is resting on the center support board, or do I need to get it hoisted and set on stands? Any expereince with the "keel protector material" used by PWC owners?

remove CB Bunks

If you need to work on the leading edge, you can access it by removing the Center Board support boards. This allows you to lower the keel a little and work from underneath. Jeff Peltier

I raised my H26 off the trailer about 5 feet

to drop the CB and glass the leading edges. It was one hell of a task and really not possible unless you have a very well set up shop area and related equipment. I only did it because I had to remove it compleatly. Jeff's idea is a very good one. The board would still require support of some sort but cross pads could be inserted while allowing open working area where needed. Mark the area on the trailer that needs to be accessed, float the boat, remove the bunks holding the CB, install temp. cross supports, load the boat up, take home and fix. Ray S/V Scooter
