After sailing a few summers in San Diego Bay we have decided that our jib is just not cutting it. They winds here are usually too light. So I have been looking for a used hank on 150% genoa sail. Have looked at Minney's, Bacon, Pineapple, Craigslist and on various forums classifieds. I have the dimensions: Luff 23.5, Leech 21.5, Foot 15.6 but do the dimensions have to be exact?? I haven't found one sail with these exact measurements. Any ideas? Thank!

Well, the luff length can't be any greater than the useable forestay, of course, and allowing for a little stretch. :D I personally prefer being able to see under the sail, so decksweepers have their issues...

The other dimensions should be a little more forgiving, so I'd say no, they don't have to be exact. Maybe the seller(s) will let you do a test hoist?

check with North, Hood, etc. They have used sails. Also contact Bluewater Yachts in Seattle. Good Luck

Don't necessarily focus on used sails. I was shopping at Bacon and he showed me a brand new jib. Cost about $350. Obviously a genny will cost a bit more but even if it were $450 it would t be that far from a good used one price wise.

I put new sails, main and jib on OHANA for less than $1000 last year.

I bought a 130% genny for $200 and 155% genny for $250 looking for used sails. The 155% genny was used 3 times and looks it. However, it took mje a couple of month to find them.

I'd love to find a genoa for my 25 for the exact same reason. Seems we're sailing the same waters :)

Just looked at Bacon's "Sailquoter" and a new 150% genoa for my 26S would cost $804.20. Way out of my price range. Perhaps they are cheaper in the store?

Nah, just another Mac owner in the area. I'd love to get a genoa, but unless a fantastic deal just falls into my lap I'm not likely to actually be buying anytime soon. I've spent enough money on the boat this year already.

I purchased a used Genoa locally here in the Cincinnati area at Strictly Sail. They have a full list on their website. Good pricing and good people. Strictlysail.com

Come to think of it, my last (150%) genoa was from Strictly Sail. I think...

There's a guy on the Atlanta, GA Craigslist that has sails for sale. Lots of them various sizes and types. Usually $200 or less.

Yeah, there's a big salvage operation in the Atlanta area that I have seen advertised before, so they're probably selling off the sails as they part out the boats.
I actually ran across them looking at swim platforms (another thread).

Instead of a new genoa, have you considered picking up a used asymmetrical spinnaker? They are great in light aiir and easy to use . I had one on my Mac 25.
The other thing to consider is using a gin pole to keep your existing genoa extended while going down wind. on light days.
