How to cover your salon table with a nautical map

I posted a bit ago about how I used bar top epoxy for the galley counters.


I also used it for the salon table! Encasing it with a map of puget sound. LOVE this! way better than the 80's laminate table I have the tutorial and pictures here.

How much depth can you see in the Bar Top Epoxy after you have coated the surface ........ or is this something YOU control when you apply the epoxy ? Also, how resistant is the epoxy surface to scratches and wear ?

I had used System 3 Silver Tip epoxy on several recent projects but found it necessary to rob a bank each time I purchased the epoxy.

great question - you control the depth, for this table I poured a full box of this, (the box is under $30 at home depot) and it only took 1. on my blog post I have a link to the epoxy I used.. depending on what you get, it can get spendy!

you can also "brush" it around to thin it out if you want a thinner look.

How did you keep the epoxy from ronning of at the rounded corners ?
Going to do my countertops in my 1982 Catalina 30 real soon , already ordered the paper

I actually just let it run over the edges a bit and used a brush to brush the drip marks off the bottom. so that it encased it up to the teak boarders as well as all the way over the 2 rounded corners.

Hi,
Glad I read that post. The white counter top is not that great looking, and wasn't sure I wanted to make the job to change it.
But this is a great looking solution, we'll do it next spring when weather permit.
