Yep, that's it

Unlikely as it seems, that little boat had a lot of room. The picture shows an outboard engine but they came with an inboard, in our case a Yanmar YSE8. The vessel also had a cast iron swing keel. It was built in both sloop and ketch configurations and came with its own trailer.

bigger boat

Barry; We used to have a Cat-22. All it took to convince my wife we needed a bigger boat was one weekend trip to Catalina Island with the two kids. It was like a Chinese puzzle. To get one thing, we had to move ten other things. We shopped for a year then found a Cat-30 that fit the bill perfectly. Good luck.

Single Man's Advice...

...is indeed worthless. I just bought a 24-footer and did not even consult the girlfried - don't live together even - and she is some ticked! Falling on my sword, I'd say the advice about making her part of the process/decision is the smartest thing! Drew

I AM A LUCKY GUY

I had put a down payment on a new 260 hunter but my wife talked me out of it. She felt trailering was too much and she talked me into going bigger and no trailering. We have been sailing our 2001-290 hunter three years and so glad we did go bigger an no trailering. I do want a 356 or bigger but she wants to wait until we move to florida in a few years ,so I'll need some help than, good luck and tell your wife she'll love the bigger boat with more room and better handling on the water, everything will be so much better. I took mine on a private charter with a captain

on a 45' boat in a gorgeous cruising ground, (San Juan Islands) stopping at overpriced resorts like Roche Harbor for $15 hamburgers. She was disappointed I only got a Cat 270 and is already looking forward to "next, bigger" boat.

Girlfriend with bigger boat?

What a great idea. If I find a girlfriend with a thirty foot boat my biggest problem will be explaining all of the growth on the bottom of my twenty two footer when I have been away every weekend sailing. But I'll think of something. P.S. Please send pictures of boat.

work the confidence factor

When we moved to where I could sail again, near Carlyle Lake, I decided to buy a Snipe. Took my wife to see it ... she looked at the boat, then at the lake, said I was welcome to buy it but if I wanted her to sail, it needed to be a bigger boat or a smaller lake. O'Day 22. Took her sailing in incrementally more challenging situations, being careful never to stress her (stressed MYSELF once but didn't let her see it) (same technique worked great with snow skiing and white water canoeing). By not giving her any too-tough-at-the-time experiences, she learned to love to sail, ski, canoe. Bottom line ... if you love her, stay in her comfort zone, and then help her expand it. After a couple years, we went to the lake one day when it was really honking. She was excited. I looked at the conditions, said truthfully we couldn't go out. No ability to reef and boat too small, late fall water too cold, sorry dear. Disappointment ended up equalling a Catalina 27. Her idea. Best strategy ... partner with each other in growing experiences. Tom Monroe C27 Different Drummer Carlyle Lake

Take her for a ride

on a friend's bigger boat, or maybe charter one for a weekend. My wife was not a big fan of sailing our San Juan 21 but she absolutely loves our Pearson 28. After she sailed the first few times it was always her, not me, suggesting we go sailing. Tim R.
