I am taking opportunity to ask for you opinion or suggestion on my Standard Horizon GX2200 VHF radio.
I’m owner of Hunter 410 and doing upgrade for all instruments.
My issue is how to connect existing VHF Radio GX2200 AIS, DSC to a new NMEA2000 network.
I appreciate any help.
Thanks, John

FYI, here is a whole new schematics….

Here is access to the SH manual...

It is about page 16 that you find the electrical connections installation. In reading the manual looks like the radio connects using NMEA 0183 connections to chart plotters.

I suggest you contact Milltechmarine at Welcome to Milltech Marine - your AIS experts or by calling them at 206-299-2217 with your question, as I'm sure they've heard it before. I purchased a USB Break-out Cable from them which allowed feeding AIS/GPS data from my GX2200 to a small laptop pc running OpenCPN. Works great, and is my primary chartplotter!

I used a Yacht Devices YDNG02R NMEA0183 to NMEA2000 Converter to interface my GX2200 to my network. It worked great. The AIS showed up nicely on my Raymarine chartplotter.

Before you spend $200 on one of those actisense or yachdesigns converters, give standard horizon a call... or go in to westmarine service desk and let them make the call... they have the back line number. Anyway... you can probably get away with a simple nmea 0183 to n2k converter cord... At least it's worth a phone call.

You can't unfortunately. There are a couple of issues. But the converters work great and aren't that expensive.

It might make more sense economically in the long run to buy a new radio which includes AIS and DSC that would be essentially “ plug and play” without the need of some kind of interface.

The GX2200 is an AIS receiver and has DSC. There are only two VHF with AIS transponders built in, from B&G and Simrad. They are $1,100.

Standard Horizon does have the GX6000 out now that is NEMA 2000. But it's $500.

The Actisense NGW-1-AIS NMEA Gateway for AIS Systems is under $200.

I would add that my personal experience with the Standard Horizon GX2200 is that it works very well. I also like the remote unit (CMP31) that is available for it. Hooking it up to the NMEA 2000 converter was pretty easy too.

Vesper has come out with their VHF/AIS transponder system last November. They call it Cortex.
They are taking orders while they await the FCC authorization.

I have had their XB8000 on my boat for 3 plus years. Great technology and integration into a marine system.

Can you please specify what converter did you use?

I will re-post this:

I am using the Actisense NGW-1-AIS NMEA Gateway for AIS Systems to connect the GX2200 to a Raymarine backbone. It works great. Displays the data on the chart plotter and is accessible on the i70 MFDs as well.

I only connected the AIS. The GX2200 does not need a GPS since one is built in and I have a chart plotter with it's own GPS.
