How to clean shore power cable?

Anyone have a good way to clean the shore power cord? When I lay the cord on the deck some of the dirt from the cord always transfers to the boat. It's like a tar that has to be rubbed off the fiberglass. I tried general cleaners but no luck. Thanks.

A Little

Mineral Spirits works well.

*5 unplug it first

then simple green and a rag

Greased Lightening or Simple Green

work great. I found them both in the grocery store. Once cleaned, use self adhering velcro strips to secure the cord to the life lines to keep it off the deck.
