How to change gear oil on Yanmar 1GM10?

Hello. I need some help from fellow Yanmar owners. I have a new to me Yanmar 1GM10. I just checked the gear oil in my transmission, and it is pink! Like a strawberry milkshake. I need to change the oil, but I'm not sure how to drain the old oil. Do I siphon it out like I did for the engine oil, or is there a drain plug somewhere underneath. I'm guessing some kind of water intrusion has turned the oil pink, but what could cause that?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Someone probably put in Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) . That is pink (you may have a little air entrained in it) and is what some transmissions use, but not yours. Your transmission should have 30 wt engine oil in it. There is a drain plug on the bottom and if you are lucky, there is enough space under the gearbox to put a catch-pan. The transmission only has 250cc of oil in it, just a hair over a liquid cup. You can siphon or suction pump most of it out then open the drain plug and catch the last little bit. While ATF is not optimum for that transmission, it will not have caused damage in your lightly loaded application. Good Luck!

Thanks, kloudie1!

I kinda suspected it was ATF in there. I have a siphon pump I used for the oil change and will use that. I'll look for the drain plug after I finish breakfast.
