Dear forum members,
I live in germany and the hunter boats are rare here. Therefore it is difficult to find sailors with experience of hunter boats. Actually I'm interested in buying a hunter 26, it is build in 1996 and has a outboard motor with 15 horse powers. The Front Sail is new. A trailer is available. All together around 13k euro. Please advice me, what to take care of and where to look accurately and what to ask
over-particular the owner.
Thank you all in advance
Jan.

Normally, when someone buys a boat, they hire a marine surveyor to inspect the boat for them. Even as a professional in this industry and a former surveyor, I always hire one as my desire for the boat may allow me to gloss over things an impartial inspector won't.
This person is like the one you would hire to inspect a house you were considering to buy only for boats. Check on the internet for one near you. They will check all parts of the boat, rig, sails and motor and give you a report and list any problems with the boat. You will need this report (survey) if you want to insure the boat, as well.
I'd estimate it would cost less than 250 Euros, so if the boat was not good, you could save over 12k Euros and not be making a mistake.
Good luck.

Thank You. You're absolutely right - but to be honest, I'm too impatient to wait, until a surveyor takes himself the time to do that. In germany we have a "service desert"- it would take a long time to finish the
assessment. Additional I knew the owner from the sphere at work (hope, that was formulated correctly).
You would help me a lot, if you point me at the characteristical vulnerabilities, that a hunter typical has.

Sorry, I have no familiarity with this sort of boat, but you should get help from others here;it is a popular small boat, in the US I think.

Isn't there also a British Hunter Sailboat company?

Just want to confirm its a US Hunter vs British. There's probably a better chance of a British boat in Germany than US.

First what is the location of the boat? I use to be a sailboat dealer and know the boat oh too well as I sold and repaired them. Then there is shipping to be involved as well. First the location?
