Hunter 30 1980 - I need to attach a couple of blocks to the base of my mast for my main sheet, downhaul and spinnaker halyard. I tried to screw a heavy duty saddle and block to deck at the bottom of my mast using 2.5 inch x 1/4" SS screw. The screw entered a solid area of Oak in the deck but the downhaul broke the screw off. Now I want to bring my mainsheet forward to the mast before going back to the cockpit and I would prefer the block to be attached to the mast. Any ideas as to what I could use to hold a couple of blocks at the base of the mast? These blocks whould have to handle a lot of tension. I have thought of a bail, bolting a saddle to the mast or some insert in the mast track (internal) but wonder if anyone has done this before.

Base plate or cheek blocks

You can mount cheek blocks on the mast as shown on the linkbelow. The more common solution is to mount a stainless plate under the mast boot. Eyes for the blocks are either welded onto or cut into the plate before mounting it. David Lady Lillie

Check Blocks would work for halyards but

not for anything attached to the boom as it would be out of alinement most of the time and would be too much wear on the sheet. I cannot get to my boat at present but wonder what the mast plate is attached with. Does anyone know on a 1980 H30?
