How Slow Will You Go?

I believe "C" is the smart option. No use beating yourself up and the boat today when tomorrow could be a whole different game. I subscribe to the theory that I am a recreational sailor and do not have to be anywhere in particular at any specific time. This means I can pick and choose when the boat moves. I have done my share of slogging against wind and current for endless hours to reach a not so far destination and learned from it that it is just a waste of time with no benefits. Right now I will turn around and sit at a marina or an anchorage or leave the boat until conditions improve.

Agreed, a wise sailor chooses place or time, but doesn't try to force both.

Catalina 270 255 Wabamun. Welcome to the marina
Actually wrong. If you do that on a 34 foot boat, you are horribly overcanvassed. And, to boot, you're going slower.
Stu, that wasn't to suggest that it's a normal way of life. The admiral wouldn't put up with that kind of activity on a normal basis after the water ballast boat went buh bye.

motoring into a breeze

I dont do it. If conditions are unfavorable for the direction Im going I fall off the breeze and put a reef in so I can sail. It does not make much sense to me to motor into a heavy chop
with a small outboard.I sail on and off my mooring. The only time I motor is when there is no
wind.
