The Great frozen north

Happy Turkey Day to everyone, and tomorrow we will look like this with another Lake effect snow storm off lake Erie. This is the time when i finally get to hide in my wood shop for the next 4 months building the things i thought of doing during sailing season, but just couldn't convince myself to give up a beautiful sail day. Believe me the winters fly by when you keep your self busy and go to a few boat shows, just for the fix

Winter

Tomorrow I will go to the boat and winterize her systems. Water, A/C, and Engine. The bimini is rolled up and snug in it's boot, the boat is tied to the dock snugly with chafe protection on all lines. Then she will be visited 2X per month to see if she is ok, and after rooky weather. Time now to put on the muffy slippers, a long sleeved sailing tee shirt, and the sleeping britches, sip a mug of grog and look at the West Marine catalog. (I would turn on the gas logs but my wife, the energy engineer, says we can't afford it this year with energy prices so high. Happy winter everyone, it is only Dec, Jan, and Feb!

Life in middle Al

It's a little chiily, Then rember my bass fishing insanity. I'd get up put on the poly poprline underwear, the heavy jeans and sweater, the the snowmobile suit with goretexthinsulite gloves, and the fullface helmute so I could blast down the lake at 70 mph. Now sit's some flece pants and jacket and maybe some nylon pants and jacket. Sailing is nice here in the sun.

And now for something completely different

Call it a lapse of sanity,but when the sailing season is over(and the kayaking season is nearly done)Mrs KD and I put down the paddles and halyards,take up our backpacks and go winter camping in the White Mts. of New Hampshire.And just when the winter starts to get a bit tired-there's a week of kayak camping in Exuma in March. I get to sneak in some sailing on a Hobie then!Life is good-even in winter!

Iceboating in MD

JohnS, Yes there is iceboating in MD. The Bush River, just north of Baltimore, supports a good sized fleet. I live in PA and do most of my iceboating on lakes in PA or NJ. There's lots in NY and CT.

In North Texas

this is the time of year that we wait for. Temperature in the 60-70 range during the day and 40-50 at night. Most of the time the wind is perfect, ie. between 10 and 20. We don't have the violent weather that occurs in the spring.
