How often do you sleep on your boat?

As much as possible

Which unfortunatly is only about a 5 or 6 nights a season. Lots of nice spots in Maine to spend a night,including my mooring.

Funny, How things Happen!

When we first purchased Parrot Tales 3 years ago, we were living about 1.5 hours from the slip. We frequently spent 2 or 3 days on the boat on weekends, generally (but not always) in the slip, and always enjoyed it. After retiring last year, we decided to move away from the Houston traffic and closer to the slip so that we could take those afternoon spins around the Bay. Now, it seems that we rarely sleep on the boat. You just can't have it all, (but we keep trying).

My "summer place"

As much as I love to sail, I quickly realized that I spend far more time ON my boat that SAILING it. I wish I could do something to change that, but - in the meantime - I love just "messing about in boats" on my STARGAZER. I speep-over whenever I can - which averages out to about once a week. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that the boat is more of a comfortable summer home for me than a sailboat - and that level of comfort is reflected in all the goodies I have on-board - like an LCD TV and a coffee maker! Snapping Shrimp and Phosphorescence

When we purchased our C36 in Long Beach, I spent several weekends living and working on the boat. Preparing for the voyage up the coast to San Francisco. The first night aboard I was kept from sleep by a spooky 'snap, cracle, pop' (breakfast cerial) type noise. It got louder with the bilge cover open, and sounded for all the world like a hot electrical wire was shorting somewhere under the floorboards. I took a lot of stuff appart and found nothing. the battery voltages did not seem to be affected and I could find no water leaking in. Finally I gave into fatigue and fell asleep. The next morning I complained about the noise to a local dock mate. He knew right away what the problem was. I had to look it up before I believed him. stilton.tnw.utwente.nl/shrimp Quite often my wife and I overnight on our boat at the marina, but (night time) watch changes at sea have their own special magic. Coffee tastes better, friendships seem closer, and the bond between you and your boat can be almost surreal as your wake churns phosphorescent beneath an endless sky.

My second home!

My daily commute to my office is approximately three hours a day. I recently bought my 23' O'Day and have it on a slip that is only 12 miles from my office. I now sleep on my boat four nights a week. I love it! It gives me a chance to sail each night and get a couple hours a day of my life back. Being in Minnesota though, this will only last until the middle of October.

Million Dollar View

Spending the night on the boat is always great whether in the marina or out on the hook. In the summertime, I do go back home to sleep in air conditioning after spending the day napping, doing boat projects, sailing or whatever. All in all, I'll probably spend 1 night a month on board. Although I bought the boat for weekend fun and get-aways, she came in very handy when I decided to sell my condo and buy a house closer to my boat and office. The condo sold in two weeks, but the house took 3 months to find during which time I lived on the boat. Great experience and makes you realize what you'd miss if did sell it all and leave.

A lake 'House'..... on weekends

....home port soon to be the Lake of The Ozarks. My wife and I (and friends) sail year around. I am lucky to have all the conforts of home on my Hunter 42. We spend long weekends on our boat: usually two nights anchored out somewhere different most of the time....at least three times a month all year around. We grill on the boat at least once of the nights. I even have Direct TV (I don't watch it though). Part our life for us and our friends.

Staying aboard on my Watkins 27

Hello, The 4th of July and following days was the longest I stayed aboard my new to me 1979 Watkins 27. Right aft of my transom was a beautifal fireworks show, bbq'd a nice fat steak on my force 10 bbq, listened to some tunes and just enjoyed myself. I got to stay that night and the next 2...after 3 days of being on the boat I didnt want to go home. I got a kick out of losin my land legs. End of september Im headin the florida to live on her... Im 37 and single and decided its time to do something different... time to have some new adventures. 27 feet isnt huge but I have 6'2 headroom, and plenty of room for books and movies and been tossing out my junk...so Andrew...what are you planning on doing for when it gets cold? peace deryk "Wanderer" 1979 Watkins 27

End of Sept. your heading south?? Have a lady friend of mine heading south about the same time, and have another guy from the renegade cruisers board I think we are going to buddy boat with. I am going to fly to Conn. and come down with here, and the other guy is still looking for crew. If you are interested, maybe we can make it three boats. I bought Adagio to live in SF (AND SAIL!) last year and am now down in Ventura (south central coast CA). An old Bene First 405 and the best apartment that I've ever had!

up to 8 weeks on H 26

We have a Hunter 26 and have trailered it to the North Channel and Chessapeake Bay for 3, 5, 6 and 8 week stays over the past several years. We've added storage and made the boat very comfortable for the two of us. It's amazing how the body slows down when living aboard for an extended period of time.

Never Enough

Our Hunter 34 is on Lake Superior in the Apostle Islands. We manage one or two weekends a month, at least. Our preference is sleeping at anchor somewhere in the islands but we don't mind sleeping on the boat in the marina. As much as we love sailing it, sometimes it seems to be a cabin on the lake too!

Every time!

We bought the Mac 26X primarily for its excellent accomodations, and overnighting, preferably more than one or two nights, is just part of taking it out. It stays in the driveway otherwise, but we try to get it out every 2nd or 3rd week.

It's a mini vacation

I spend roughly every other weekend on board my 22 foot US Yachts. Even if I don't take her out it's just a pleasure hanging out with everyone else down at the marina. It is like a mini vacation and it makes starting the next work week easier.

We stay on our Catalina 25 all summer long. We head home for work and to do laundry and that is about it.

overnights

We got a late start this year because of the rain, but that didn't stop us. I sail a Pearson 30 and my friend sails a Santana 35. We have been out sailing, between the two boats, about 20 days and have spent about 5 nights so far. We have alot of club races planned and expect to stay on board over night around 10-15 more nights in the Penobscot Bay area this summer (which is short). It doesn't get any better than this. We spend as much time as possible on "escape" a Hunter 310. Last year we spent 60-70 nights on the boat and sailed just under 1000NM during the season, around georgian Bay and Lake Huron. This season is shaping up basically the same, sailing and anchoring out most weekends and a couple of two week adventures thrown in.

Weekends on the Water

The old adage about the dead coming back to life be here at 5:00 pm on Friday applies to us. We head to the Chesapeake every weekend and whine when we have to come home (for work only). It's just like living in the "fun" neighborhood for the weekend!

We have great fun on week end in our 22'. Every week end we sleep in the boat anywhere she want us to go!
