It varies greatly

Theoretically if you wanted to sleep while tied to a dock, and only used the boat for day sailing so there was little gear and provisions aboard, you could sleep six adults and three small children inside, plus two adults outside in the cockpit in good weather. Two adults in forward v berth, two adults in dinette drop down table berth, two adults, one child under the cockpit in the rear. One child on galley seat, one child on galley floor. However, the maximum rated load for the boat is six adults for stability purposes. If you try for maixmum people on board, be sure to have ballast tank fully loaded. Given that we provision, modified and arranged our boat for extended cruising, with 24 gallons of pressure water, Raritan head and 12 gallon holding tank, electric fridge, etc. We only have room for four addlts and two children, which is the current family situation. Two adults in v berth, two adults in dinette drop down berth and two kids in the double bed sized remaining space under the cockpit at the rear. The kids share that space with: spare anchor and rode, waste holding tank, six cheap and four SOLAS approved life vests, bed linens, clothing, 4 fenders, spare rope and other parts, and the electric fridge under the companionway step. If going to sea for coastal cruising, or sleeping while sailing the galley seat is not suitable for a child's sleeping unless a lee board or cloth were instlled to prevent roll off. For just the wife and myself, the usual crew, we sleep in the V berth, to avoid dropping the dining table, and because when anchored or sailing I find it much easier to pop my head out the hatch to visually check weather conditions, or for anchor drag in the middle of the night without disturbing my sleeping partner. Hope this helps.

It Depends!

On how old, i.e. tall and wide, the people are. I'll try to attach a layout picture of the boat. The V-berth cushions are about 30" wide aft, the port side one is 72" down the centerline, and the starboard one about 4" shorter. However, by removing the forward dinette seat back, it adds about 18" or so to the starboard side of the V-berth. The port side can also be extended by running a board (some use the seat back) over the port seating to the forward dinette seat. The table makes into a bed about 38" wide, but we don't use that, we primarily sleep with the V-berth extended on the starboard side, so I don't know what the dimensions of the table and aft seat are. I'd guess the table and BOTH seats are a little under 6 feet long. They call it a "double" but it's not quite "twin" size (39" wide). Maybe a "cozy" couple could sleep there. We couldn't. The aft berth is a bit over 6' wide at the head (forward) and a bit under that at the foot (aft). It's a bit over 6' long to the head or aft galley seat and about 7' long in the center. The headroom is obviously better on either side and a little low, but sleepable in the center. Depending on how much "stuff" you bring along, the 26X could be good for 4 adults or a family of 5. There are quite a few of the latter I know of. We have a later model (2002) 26X with a ladder that folds up instead of the step used in the older Xs and shown in the drawing. The aft dinette seat can hold a 48 quart 3-day cooler or 36 quart 5-day cooler in the provided "tub". By trimming the hole in it a little, you can fit a Igloo 70 quart MaxCold 5-day cooler by not using the tub. We also have a 50 quart Igloo "Ice Cube" cooler tied down on the aft galley seat for drinks, and reserve the cooler under the dinette seat for food. -- Moe Looks like the picture didn't work... but I added a link to an older Mac 26X website to this message.

It does depend

Our kids are grown, but for us we try to stick with 4 adults max for over nighters. Any more than that and it's just too crowded for us. Wifey and I sleep under the cockpit. If another couple is along they sleep on the dinette set up. If it's two of my buddies one sleeps on the dinette and the other on the v-berth (whoever is shorter gets the v-berth).

4-6 persons

Dear friend. To answer to your question, 4 people can sleep and travel widely.Another two, may fit at the dinete in case. The biggest problem is the space for clothes and sacs. If 6, there is no space. Hane a nice time George

Why do you lie

The reason you sleep in the v-berth is that you are over forty and need to relieve the pressure on your prostate in the middle of the night. Pop out the hatch, aim over the side and you're good-to-go. At least thats the reason I sleep there. No photos available.

How many pancakes can you fit in a dog house?

Ok now if you got a bunch of college kids you could easily sleep 25 on board counting a few kids. You put 3 sleeping in the v-berth with the shotest in the mddile cuase they'll need short legs, Then you can get 4 under the cockpit on the double wide underneath. If they agree to all sleep on their sides you could get 5 under there. Let's see that's 9. Ok so you get some plywood and bridge the port and sartboard berths and that's 7.5' wide bed so you can get another 5 or 6 sleeping again on their sides. We're up to 15 now. Again the short guy has to sleep on the port side and the longest on the starboard. Then you could have somebody sleep sitting up on the head and you could close the door to keep them from rolling out. That's 16. Then 2 could sleep on the cockpit seats with at least one child on the floor of the cockpit, but be careful not to step on the little guy. Now we're up to 19. Another 5 could sleep on the deck and an infant could sleep in the anchor well and you could shut the anchor well if he was a cry baby, wouldn't have to listen to him that way. So there you have it 25. I forgot about the bosen seat. You could winch somebody up and tie them to the mast. That's 26. How about that you got a mini cruise ship and didn't know it. As long as everybody didn't have to go to the bathroom at once you'd be ok. Even add a few hamocks and the sky is the limit.

There's always one

or in this case two, who like to respond with ridicously dumb answers, which they probably think are humorous, to a legimate question which already has some really good responses. The X is a standars size, whereas a doghouse can be built as big or as small as you want it. So to answer your question, BBH, figure out how many pancakes you want to keep in your doghouse, post that on this forum and I sure some sailor who is an architect or engineer can calculate your dimensions. lml, I'm well over 40, sleep in the v berth, and if the need arises, have no problem getting to the potty. I think it would be interesting to see how many sailors just pop thru the hatch and use the great outdoors.

Hey BW, You ask some very intellectually stimulating questions. Are you taking a poll on that one?
