How much does a sail weigh?

My wife is getting the biggest kick out of me talking or typing on this forum. For my wife, she is my biggest fan and my friend for 15 years.

Dude, you can pick up a used sail on E-bay for about a $100...way better than dinking with a poly tarp...

Then you can learn sail repair and fabrication from there...

One day I will have a set of sails made for my sailboat, but believe it or not I enjoy building "things." for my sailboat.

Oh yeah.... NOW you HAVE to name the boat "Stupid":dance:

Paint it in big letters right on the transom.

Then when people ask, you can tell them... ;)

Don't worry about the weight. Get whatever will make your boat sail. Avoid windy days until you are familiar with how the boat handles. If you buy used sails for a boat your size it won't be an issue and there will be used sails available to you.

In this issue of Small Craft Advisor (great mag for non-millionaire yachtsmen like ourselves) there is an article about a couple that sailed their 15' dinghy from Bellingham Washington to Alaska.
The story was, well let's just say a little thin but they used a spinnaker made from a salvaged parachute. Saw the pic of the OD green nylon before I read the part about the spinnaker and thought "that looks familiar!"
Another instance of making it happen with taking out another line of credit!
