How much Bleach is enough?

In "Fresh Water Maintenance" you recommend 2 oz bleach per gallon solution, and one gallon of solution for every 5 gallons of capacity. I think this works out to 4 oz of bleach per 10 gallons after you fill the tank with fresh water. Later in the article you say that less than 8 oz per 10 gallons of water isn't enough to accomplish anything. Should the final mix be 4 oz per 10 gallons or 8 oz per 10 gallons? Thanks for you informative articles

Memory is the second thing to go.,..

For nearly 10 years the same source cited in the current instructions called for 8 oz bleach/10 gallons water, left in the system for no more than 24 hours. A few months ago, they were revised to the instructions that are there now, at which time I replaced 'em. However, the original instructions are still imprinted in my brain and my fingers type 'em on "auto pilot." Go with the instructions in the HM forum library now. However... Notice that those instructions specifically call for Purex or Clorox bleach, which is 7% bleach compared to 4.5-5% for "bargain brands." The original instructions didn't distinguish...on the grounds that, as long as it's not left in the system too long, too much is better than too little. So be sure to use either Clorox or Purex.
