We had our boat hauled out last week. Before putting it back in the water, I want to mark the boat for haulout straps for future haulouts. I'm thinking of tape or paint between the toe rail and hull stripes. The crane guys suggested giving them a picture of the bottom & sides.

I used a couple small pieces of red vinyl tape (electrical tape) just under the toe rail of my boat. They've hung on for three years now... and don't look like they're coming off anytime soon.

The yard where we bought our boat uses triangular shaped tape , points down for where the pads sit and points up for the lift slings, good luck and good sailing.

If you have the gunnel that has lots of holes along its length zip ties work well

The previous owner of mine had an 8x10 photo of the boat while on the lift stored with all of the manuals just for this. Seemed like a good idea.

Marking for lifting straps

BILL R. Has a good idea, but instead of the plastic wire tie, use the SS ones you get at LOWE's. They will not degrade in the sunlight.

I use one of those plastic label makers. They stick like mad, and don't fade too bad. Even if it did, the letters are proud, and I could use them like brail. Regardless, it is an indication of where they need to be, and on it simply says, "sling". This was another grueling job that took five minutes..
