First Star
Go to "www.firststarled.com". This is the successor to what was Deep Creek Design for quite a few years. We bought one of these as an anchor light last year before heading off to Maine. They use less than 10% of the electrical power that a standard anchor light requires. If you go through the "testimonials" on the website you will see more than one name that you will probably recognize. In spite of the low power draw, the LED light can be seen as well as and as far a distance as standard lights. The light does have somewhat of a blue-white cast to it; pure white LED is still a technical challenge. We could always pick out our boat in a swarm of anchor lights by the blue-white cast.In addition, the light comes with an internal photocell that turns on the light only when ambient light gets below a certain level. We often left the boat in the afternoon knowing that we would be returning late, and turned on the anchor light at the panel knowing that the light would really only come on at dusk. The LED cluster light are a bit pricey, but they are supposed to last like 100,000 hours. We can only hope to live and sail that long! We love ours, and highly recommend it. There is an issue with "official approvals" (I forget exactly what the issue is) and you may want to check it out.
