specialy if you are going/plan to sell your boat. This will give you a referrence to compare to. Some surveyors use scare tacticts to benefit the purchaser (purchaser pays for the survey remember). But just the fiberglass/hull portion of it, to reduce your cost. I recently sold my boat and had a few surprises, nothing major. I think that you should do the mechanical part yourself - turning stuff on and off. Besides you need to know where the equipment is just in case you need to make any repairs. Another thing that I would do is to get a rigging professional to go aloft to inspect the riggging.Matias
